Amstelveld, the final artwork in the Night Hour series, is inspired by the vibrant city of Amsterdam. Rich in culture, architecture, and artistic heritage, the city provided a fitting conclusion to the journey. This piece not only captures the essence of Amsterdam but also symbolises the transition from mainland Europe, across the sea, and back home, marking the completion of an unforgettable journey.
Based on my travels through mainland Europe in 2018. At a turning point in my life, it focuses on my own personal interpretations of each city and takes colour inspiration from the scenery at night. These artworks all share the common theme of a single colour, which stems from the memory of the rivers in each city at night. Through careful and considered application I am able to create subtle shifts in tone, even though the original hue is the same. Each composition represents a separate city I stayed in and the feelings evoked by each.
